Crown Holdings reported higher revenue and adjusted profit in its third quarter, driven by a 6% rise in global beverage-can shipments. However, segment income declined and rising costs led management to maintain full-year guidance, signaling pressure on margins.
Quarter Results and Margins
For the three months ended September 30, 2026, Crown Holdings reported net sales of $3.7 billion, up from $3.2 billion a year earlier. Adjusted diluted earnings per share rose 7% to $2.39 from $2.24. Global beverage-can volumes increased 6% year over year.
Operating income increased to $442 million from $423 million, but segment income fell to $484 million from $490 million, reflecting narrower profitability at the business level. Material-cost pass-through added $405 million to sales growth, while foreign-exchange translation reduced sales by $8 million.
Guidance and Capital Allocation
The company reiterated full-year adjusted diluted EPS guidance of $8.35 to $8.45 and expects adjusted free cash flow of at least $950 million after about $550 million in capital spending. Fourth-quarter adjusted EPS guidance ranges from $1.63 to $1.73. Crown targets full-year beverage-can volume growth of 4% to 5%, with 3% to 4% expected in the fourth quarter.
Year-to-date share repurchases totaled $598 million through the third quarter. CFO Kevin C. Clothier said the company’s strong balance sheet and net leverage of 2.5 times adjusted EBITDA position it to invest in organic growth and return capital to shareholders.
By maintaining guidance despite volume gains, Crown signaled that revenue growth may not immediately translate into wider margins unless cost pressures ease in the coming quarter.
