Apple (AAPL) on Oct. 20 announced a U.S. titanium supplier and expanded domestic component production, even as Apple iPhone Duo supply showed strain with extended delivery estimates and analyst surveys signaling mixed demand for the new model.
U.S. Manufacturing Commitments and Component Sourcing
Apple committed up to $100 million over three years to Perryman Company, a Houston, Pennsylvania, supplier, to secure U.S.-sourced titanium for the iPhone Duo enclosure. Perryman will melt, forge, and roll grade 5 titanium containing at least 80% recycled material for the device’s casing.
The company also expanded its relationship with Delaware-based Qnity Electronics to produce specialty films for the iPhone 18 Pro’s variable-aperture camera system. Apple said nearly 100 components used in the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro are now produced by American suppliers across more than a dozen states.
The announcement focuses on materials and parts sourcing and does not indicate that either phone will be fully assembled in the United States.
Demand Signals and Analyst Perspectives
On the first preorder day, online delivery estimates for some iPhone Duo models stretched to roughly 14 weeks, suggesting limited availability relative to demand.
JPMorgan lowered its 2026 shipment forecast for the Duo to 8 million–9 million units from an earlier estimate of about 10 million, citing supply constraints. The firm maintained an Overweight rating and described demand indicators as encouraging despite the reduced volume projection.
A KeyBanc survey of 2,046 current iPhone users, conducted from Sept. 19 to Oct. 6, found that while the initial iPhone 18 cycle appeared strong, broader users showed less likelihood to upgrade. Rising prices, fewer carrier promotions, and adequate existing devices contributed to weaker upgrade intent. KeyBanc reiterated an Underweight rating and warned that slower unit growth could reduce new user additions and weigh on Services revenue.
Together, the trimmed shipment forecast, extended delivery estimates, and weaker upgrade intent flagged by the KeyBanc survey could constrain near-term unit growth and pressure Services revenue as Apple approaches the in-store launch.
The iPhone Duo is scheduled to go on sale in stores on Oct. 23, 2026.
