Halliburton Inc. (HAL) reported third-quarter 2026 earnings that exceeded estimates on Oct. 20, 2026. Management said stronger international demand and cost reductions support an early 2027 outlook projecting improving margins.
Third-Quarter Results and Cash Flow
Halliburton posted third-quarter revenue of $5.7 billion and adjusted earnings of $0.60 per diluted share, surpassing analyst consensus. Revenue was flat sequentially from the prior quarter. On a GAAP basis, net income attributable to Halliburton was $417 million, or $0.50 per diluted share, down from $534 million, or $0.64 per share, in the previous quarter. Adjusted net income, excluding impairments, other charges, and tax adjustments, was $501 million.
GAAP operating income totaled $624 million, while adjusted operating income rose to $731 million from $683 million in Q2. Adjusted operating margin increased to 12.8% compared with a reported margin of 10.9%. Adjusted EBITDA, a proxy for operating profit, reached about $1.0 billion, up from $948 million in the prior quarter, reflecting strengthening core profitability.
Cash flow from operations was $368 million, and free cash flow was $156 million. Halliburton repurchased approximately $250 million of common stock during the quarter, continuing capital returns despite modest cash generation.
The results exceeded consensus estimates of $0.58 adjusted EPS and $5.59 billion in revenue.
Early 2027 Outlook and Regional Demand
Halliburton’s early 2027 outlook calls for mid-single-digit revenue growth and operating margins around 15%, about 200 basis points higher than current levels. This outlook assumes a flat North American market and does not require a recovery in North American hydraulic fracturing, which management described as upside to the base case.
Management cited firmer margins in the core business, new work starts, a cost-reduction program, and the phase-down of its S/4 enterprise-resource-planning (ERP) implementation as drivers of margin expansion. International strength was linked to demand in Latin America and activity in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Meanwhile, North American revenue was pressured by lower pressure-pumping activity.
The quarter’s better-than-expected results, sequential gains in adjusted operating income, and ongoing buybacks underpin Halliburton’s early 2027 outlook, which relies on international demand and internal efficiency rather than a U.S. fracking rebound.
