Fiscal Q1 2027 Results and Cost Pressures
For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, P&G reported net sales of $23.3 billion, a 4.0% increase from the prior year. Net earnings attributable to the company were $4.7 billion, or $1.97 per diluted share, compared with $4.8 billion and $1.95 a year earlier. Core EPS, which excludes certain items, rose 1.0% to $2.00, surpassing analyst expectations.
Operating cash flow reached $5.8 billion, though higher operating costs partially offset the benefit of increased sales. Organic sales, which exclude foreign exchange and acquisitions, grew 4.0%, driven by a 2.4% volume increase, a 1.1% favorable mix effect, and a 0.4% pricing contribution. Gains were broad-based, with Beauty, Grooming, and Fabric & Home Care each rising 5.0%, and Health Care and Baby, Feminine & Family Care up 3.0%.
The company reported an 80-basis-point decline in core operating margin despite achieving 250 basis points of productivity savings, highlighting ongoing pressure on profitability from rising costs.
P&G raised its estimate for fiscal 2027 profit reduction due to higher raw-material, energy, and transportation costs to about $1.4 billion, up from a previous forecast of $1.0 billion.
Management increased all-in sales-growth guidance for fiscal 2027 to a 2%–4% range to reflect the October 1, 2026, acquisition of Thorne. Organic-sales guidance remained unchanged at 1%–3%, including a 30–50 basis-point headwind from brand, product-form, and go-to-market discontinuations.
Diluted EPS growth guidance was maintained at 1%–5% compared with fiscal 2026 diluted EPS of $6.62. Core EPS guidance stayed at in-line to 3% growth versus fiscal 2026 core EPS of $6.89, equivalent to a range of $6.89 to $7.11 per share, with a midpoint near $7.00.
The company also kept adjusted free-cash-flow productivity guidance at 85%–90% and expects to return about $15 billion to shareholders through approximately $10 billion in dividends and $5 billion in share repurchases during fiscal 2027.
Taken together, the results and updated guidance show P&G relying on portfolio adjustments and productivity gains to sustain sales growth while managing significant cost headwinds that will weigh on profit and compress margins. The company preserved an aggressive cash-return program despite these challenges.
