Anthropic launched Claude Duet on Oct. 21, 2026, opening a U.S.-only research preview of the proactive AI agent designed for professionals and small businesses. The app runs tasks in the background and requires user approval for sensitive actions.
Research Preview and Access
Anthropic (P-ANTH) made Claude Duet available to U.S. Pro and Max subscribers through a waitlist. The agent is included in those plans and operates within their existing usage limits. The preview runs as a standalone app on iOS and Android and is accessible through claude.ai. Anthropic updated its product page on Oct. 22, 2026, to reflect the rollout. Limiting access to paid tiers allows the company to gather early feedback and usage data while keeping the feature behind subscription gates.
Features, Controls, and Competition
Anthropic described Claude Duet as a proactive agent that delivers morning briefings, monitors connected applications, highlights items needing attention, and completes user-assigned tasks such as scheduling meetings, preparing forecasts, building dashboards or web applications, and drafting follow-up emails. The agent continues working after users step away by operating a cloud-based virtual machine and browser. It is built on Anthropic’s Opus 5.5 model.
The app integrates with more than 6,000 connectors in the Claude Marketplace, including Gmail and Slack. It can also execute purchases using Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay. This combination enables the assistant to gather information across workplace apps and carry out transactions to complete workflow tasks.
Anthropic requires Duet to check with users before acting and mandates explicit approval for sensitive actions such as sending messages, making payments, signing documents, or deleting files. The company acknowledged that Duet can misjudge urgency and performs less effectively on some personal errands, including booking tickets. By packaging workplace automation, broad integrations, and payment support within paid plans, Anthropic positions Duet to compete with other proactive assistants like Meta’s Muse (META) and OpenAI’s Dots (P-OPEA).
“Today, we’re opening a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent,” Anthropic said in its announcement.
