QuantumScape’s Q3 results released Oct. 21, 2026, showed narrower quarterly losses, initial customer billings under the Honda pact, and plans to build a commercial-scale solid-state battery production line targeting AI data centers, aerospace, and defense.
Quarter Results and Liquidity
In a shareholder letter, QuantumScape reported GAAP operating expenses of $92.4 million and a GAAP net loss of $84.5 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026. Adjusted EBITDA loss was $60.7 million, which the company said aligned with expectations. It reiterated full-year 2026 adjusted EBITDA-loss guidance of $250 million to $275 million and capital-expenditure guidance of $27 million to $37 million.
Customer billings totaled $9.8 million in Q3, including the first invoices under the June Honda agreement. QuantumScape defines billings as the total value of invoices issued during the period and cautions they are not a substitute for U.S. GAAP revenue. The company ended the quarter with $819.8 million of liquidity and recorded $4.4 million in capital expenditures, primarily for technology development and related facility spending.
100 MWh Production Line and Commercialization Steps
QuantumScape announced plans for a 100 megawatt-hour (MWh) cell-production line, with Mühlbauer Group supplying cell-assembly equipment. Engineering work on higher-throughput processes and equipment is underway, targeting production startup in 2028. The company described this as its first commercial-scale mass production of QuantumScape cells.
The line’s output is intended for QuantumScape’s QSDC and QSAS business verticals, with target applications including AI data centers, aerospace, defense, and other advanced uses. The company also said its Eagle Line pilot facility is fully operational, producing increased volumes of QSE-5 cells for customers. Additionally, QuantumScape signed an agreement with a leading global mobility manufacturer, unnamed in the materials.
Management presented the equipment partnership, initial customer billings, and the operational pilot as sequential steps toward commercialization while continuing to pursue a capital-light licensing model in automotive markets. “This 100-MWh line will represent the first commercial-scale mass production of QS cells,” the shareholder letter said.
