Tesla Inc. (TSLA) will unveil the Cybercab on Sept. 3, 2026, in Austin, Texas. The launch of this steering-wheel- and pedal-free two-seat robotaxi running on Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) software has boosted optimism about autonomy, even as mixed August European vehicle registrations keep investors cautious.

Cybercab Launch and Production

Tesla scheduled an invite-only Cybercab launch event at its Gigafactory Texas campus in Austin, with a livestream available. Some attendees were selected through a sweepstakes among Robotaxi users. The company presents the event as a product unveiling rather than a formal approval milestone from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The Cybercab is a purpose-built, production-spec, fully autonomous two-seat electric robotaxi without a steering wheel or pedals. It is designed to run on Tesla FSD software and differs from Tesla’s current Model Y–based robotaxis, which retain conventional controls. Production Cybercabs without steering wheels and pedals have reportedly been rolling off the Giga Texas line for months. Earlier test units included temporary driver controls for data collection.

Tesla has offered employee rides in the Cybercab for nearly two months and plans to offer public rides at the launch. The company expects to integrate the vehicle into its Robotaxi app in Austin soon. At least seven Cybercabs have been added to Texas’s official automated-vehicle registry under the same authorization as existing Model Y robotaxis, granting the two-seat units legal recognition for commercial use on Texas roads.

European Registrations and Market Reaction

August 2026 European vehicle registrations for Tesla showed sharp divergence. Registrations rose 279% year-over-year in France and 104% in Denmark but fell 79% in Norway and 41% in Sweden. These national registration figures are widely used as a proxy for sales and demand.

Aggregated data indicate Tesla’s European sales rebounded in 2026 after two years of decline, supported by low prior-year comparisons, higher fuel prices, government incentives, and rising interest in electric vehicles. On Aug. 31, 2026, market recaps noted investors rotated into large-cap growth stocks, focusing on Tesla’s upcoming Cybercab launch and FSD execution plans. Investors are balancing optimism about autonomy from the product rollout against mixed regional sales signals as they assess the company’s commercialization prospects.
