Procter & Gamble (PG) reported fiscal first-quarter 2027 results on Oct. 22, 2026, showing re-accelerating organic sales led by volume even as management warned that rising raw-material, energy, and freight costs will widen a fiscal-year profit headwind.
Sales Mix and Market Share
For the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, the company reported net sales of $23.3 billion, up 4% year over year, with organic sales growth of 4.0%. Presentation materials showed that volume contributed 2.4 percentage points to growth, pricing 0.4 point, and mix about 1.1 points.
All 10 product categories and all six regions recorded organic sales growth. Among the company’s 50 largest category-country combinations, 29 held or grew market share, while global aggregate value share remained unchanged from the prior year. This pattern indicates broad demand despite uneven share shifts across markets.
Margins, Costs, and Guidance
Diluted GAAP earnings per share were $1.97 and core EPS was $2.00, each up 1% from the prior year. Core gross margin declined 150 basis points to 50.0%, and core operating margin fell 80 basis points to 25.9%. Higher raw-material, energy, and freight costs partially offset sales growth and productivity gains.
The company raised its estimated fiscal-year profit headwind from these cost pressures to about $1.4 billion, up from $1.0 billion, citing oil-related and other raw-material costs as key drivers. CFO Andre Schulten said, "We expect these headwinds to increase in the next few quarters."
P&G maintained fiscal 2027 organic-sales guidance of 1% to 3% and core-EPS growth guidance of 0% to 3%, equivalent to roughly $6.89 to $7.11 per share. It updated all-in sales-growth guidance to 2% to 4% from 1% to 3% to reflect the Oct. 1, 2026, completion of the Thorne acquisition. The outlook incorporates the increased cost headwind, signaling confidence in demand despite margin pressures.
Cash Flow and Capital Returns
Operating cash flow reached $5.8 billion, with free-cash-flow productivity at 93%. The company returned $3.9 billion to shareholders during the quarter, including $2.6 billion in dividends and $1.3 billion in share repurchases. It maintained a fiscal 2027 target of about $15 billion in total cash returned through dividends and buybacks.
Strong cash generation and capital returns provide P&G with balance-sheet flexibility as it manages rising commodity and freight costs. However, margin metrics and management’s warning about intensifying headwinds highlight risks to profitability in coming quarters.
