SK hynix reported preliminary third-quarter 2026 results on Oct. 27, 2026, with record revenue and operating profit driven by AI-memory demand and higher prices. The company also unveiled a large shareholder-return program that reshapes its capital allocation.
Record Quarter Results and Shareholder Returns
SK hynix said in a press release distributed through PR Newswire that its third-quarter revenue reached 104.6 trillion won, a 32% increase from the prior quarter and a 328% rise from the year-earlier period. This marked the first time quarterly sales surpassed 100 trillion won. Operating profit rose 38% sequentially and 632% year over year to 83.3 trillion won, implying an operating margin of about 80%, up from 76% in the previous quarter and 47% a year earlier. Net profit was 39.8 trillion won, up 216% year over year but down 58% from the second quarter's 93.9 trillion won. The results were presented under Korean International Financial Reporting Standards (K-IFRS) and described as preliminary.
The company attributed the strong quarter to higher prices for key products and robust AI-memory demand, highlighting expanded sales of HBM4, a high-bandwidth memory product, and increased shipments of high-value server products. SK hynix said HBM4 is expected to become the mainstream product starting in the fourth quarter. It also reported that long-term customer agreements cover more than half of its production capacity for 2027–2028, providing forward visibility on product mix and output.
SK hynix announced a shareholder-return program totaling about 100 trillion won for 2026, including at least 30 trillion won in cash dividends and at least 60 trillion won in share repurchases and cancellations. The board approved a 14 trillion-won third-quarter dividend and a 20 trillion-won share repurchase, with half of the repurchased shares slated for cancellation this year. The company said most gains from its investment in Kioxia will be shared with shareholders.
Preliminary figures exceeded LSEG SmartEstimates on both revenue and operating profit, underscoring the scale of the quarter. Together, the record results and the returns program signal a shift in SK hynix’s capital allocation toward shareholder distributions, placing buybacks and dividends at the center of investor focus.
“HBM4 expected to be the mainstream product from the fourth quarter,” SK hynix said.
