Philip Morris International reported third-quarter earnings that exceeded Wall Street estimates, the company said in a press release on Oct. 21, 2026. Strong demand for ZYN nicotine pouches and higher cigarette pricing boosted results, while full-year profit guidance remained unchanged.

Quarter Results and Product Mix

Philip Morris International’s third-quarter net revenue rose 5.5% to $11.4 billion, with adjusted diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $2.36, surpassing Wall Street consensus of $11.28 billion and $2.29 per share. Gross profit increased 6.7% reported and 8.3% organically, while operating income grew 14.1% reported and 10.5% organically. Group CEO Jacek Olczak said, “We delivered another excellent quarter, with growing total volumes, double-digit organic operating income growth and robust margin expansion.”

Smoke-free products, including nicotine pouches, now represent more than 40% of quarterly net revenue and about 42% year to date. Smoke-free net revenue rose 4.1% reported and 6.3% organically. Combustible product revenue also increased, up 6.4% reported and 7.7% organically, supported by pricing and demand in markets such as Turkey.

Total shipments edged up 0.6%, with smoke-free shipments rising 2.7%. In the U.S., ZYN shipments grew 4.2% to 3.2 billion pouches, and the product is available in 62 international markets. Modern oral product volume jumped 20.6% to 0.5 billion pouches, offsetting declines in legacy Nordic snus and lifting total oral smoke-free volume by 0.5%.

The U.S. market contributed significantly to growth, with net revenue up 22.7% and adjusted operating company income rising 1.5% organically to $171 million, partly reflecting increased ZYN marketing investment. Reported, unadjusted EPS declined about 5% due to a noncash adjustment related to equity investments, while adjusted EPS, the company’s primary operating measure, increased.

Guidance, Investment, and Regulatory Approvals

Philip Morris maintained its full-year adjusted diluted EPS guidance excluding currency at $8.11–$8.26. Secondary sources cited a reported-currency range of $8.29–$8.44. The company’s 2026 framework targets roughly 5%–7% organic revenue growth and 7%–9% organic operating-income growth.

The company expects Middle East conflict-related energy costs to have a somewhat greater impact in the fourth quarter and noted that the Ukraine conflict disrupted operations, logistics, and infrastructure. It plans increased fourth-quarter investment in consumer communications and will transition most flagship ZYN cans from 15 to 20 pouches.

Regulatory milestones include FDA authorization of 11 ZYN ULTRA variants on Aug. 21, 2026, premarket tobacco product application (PMTA) authorization for 31 ZYN variants, and modified-risk authorization for 20 ZYN flagship variants on June 30, 2026. The company also cited FDA marketing authorizations for Swedish Match General snus and versions of IQOS devices and consumables.

Philip Morris raised its regular quarterly dividend by 8.8% to $1.60 per share, or $6.40 annualized. By maintaining currency-excluded EPS guidance while increasing marketing investment behind ZYN and raising the dividend, the company emphasized both growth investment and shareholder returns.
