Sales Beat and Margin Gains

Currency added about 0.9 percentage point to reported growth, organic sales rose 1.9%, and McCormick de Mexico contributed roughly 14% of the quarter’s sales increase, surpassing the sales estimate of about $1.98 billion.
Adjusted operating income rose to $359 million from $294 million a year earlier, while operating income declined to $217 million from $289 million in the prior-year quarter. GAAP net income fell to $97.6 million, or $0.36 per diluted share, from $225.5 million, or $0.84, primarily due to special charges. Adjusted diluted EPS was $0.86, compared with $0.85 a year earlier and above analyst estimates of roughly $0.76.
GAAP gross-profit margin expanded 190 basis points year over year, and adjusted gross-profit margin grew 180 basis points.
Outlook and Acquisition Impact
In an investor presentation titled “Business Update, Financial Results, and Outlook | 3Q 2026,” McCormick reaffirmed its fiscal-2026 guidance. The company expects reported net-sales growth of 13%–17% and constant-currency net-sales growth of 12%–16%. It anticipates McCormick de Mexico will contribute 11%–13% of sales growth, with organic sales rising 1%–3%. Reported adjusted operating-income growth is forecast at 16%–20%, with constant-currency growth of 15%–19%. Adjusted EPS is projected between $3.05 and $3.13, reflecting 2%–5% reported growth and 1%–4% constant-currency growth. The company expects adjusted gross-profit margin expansion of 100–120 basis points, cost inflation of 6%–7%, an adjusted tax rate near 24%, and brand-marketing spending to rise at a low- to mid-teens percentage rate. Foreign-exchange rates are expected to provide a roughly 1% tailwind to net sales, adjusted operating income, and adjusted EPS.
Management attributed the improvement in adjusted profits to acquisition accretion, productivity initiatives, pricing, and margin expansion. The presentation described the quarter as reflecting a “solid base business performance and ongoing benefit from McCormick de Mexico.” The guidance indicates that most of the company’s projected sales growth depends on acquisitions rather than organic volume increases, highlighting acquisition reliance amid rising cost pressures.
