KeyCorp’s Q3 2026 earnings, released Oct. 20, reflected margin gains, stronger lending and deposit growth, and ongoing share repurchases. These results led management to raise near-term growth expectations while tightening full-year net interest income guidance.

Quarter Results and Capital Returns

KeyCorp reported net income from continuing operations attributable to common shareholders of $537 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, with diluted earnings per share of $0.51, up 24% year over year. The company posted record quarterly revenue of $2.04 billion, up 8% year over year and 4% sequentially. Net interest income rose about 10% year over year to approximately $1.30 billion, while taxable-equivalent net interest margin, a measure of profitability on interest-earning assets, widened to 2.95%, up 20 basis points from a year earlier and 6 basis points from the prior quarter.

Average total deposits increased $3.6 billion sequentially, and average loans held for investment rose $1.5 billion. Commercial-and-industrial loans expanded 5% sequentially. Investment-banking and debt-placement fees increased 27% from the prior quarter.

The company reported a common-equity Tier 1 capital ratio of 11.1% and repurchased $320 million of common shares during the quarter. Management said return on tangible common equity exceeded 15%.

Outlook and Credit Trends

In the Oct. 20 earnings-call transcript, management narrowed full-year net interest income growth guidance to approximately 10%, raised expected average loan growth to about 5%, and lifted expected average commercial-loan growth to about 10%. Management said the fourth-quarter net interest margin should be near 3%.

The company lowered its full-year net charge-off outlook to 37–39 basis points from a prior 40–45 basis-point range. Reported earnings per share exceeded analyst expectations, while revenue was slightly below estimates.

Management’s tightened net interest income guidance, raised loan-growth assumptions, and continued share repurchases emphasize a strategy to rely on margin expansion and lending momentum to support shareholder returns.
