IREN reported a sharp rise in AI Cloud activity and a backlog concentrated with investment-grade counterparties, the company said in a Nov. 5, 2026 release, as management shifted the timing of a contracted annual recurring revenue (ARR) milestone into January 2027.
Q1 Results, AI Cloud Growth, and Backlog
IREN reported results for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, issuing an earnings release and filing a Form 10-Q with the SEC on Nov. 5, 2026. Total revenue rose 66% sequentially to $228 million. AI Cloud revenue nearly tripled, increasing 182% sequentially to $200 million, with an 86% gross margin consistent with the prior quarter. Management said operating ARR doubled to $1 billion, highlighting AI Cloud’s dominant role in the quarter’s revenue growth.
Revenue backlog increased 22% sequentially to $20.3 billion, with about two-thirds tied to investment-grade counterparties. The company said its more than $4 billion ARR target is fully contracted and funded, but the timing shifted from year-end 2026 to January 2027, possibly extending to February, due to a customer-requested design change and supplier timing.
Management noted that GPU financing and customer prepayments covered more than 100% of GPU capital expenditures for the Mackenzie deployments, reducing near-term cash outlays and influencing future expansion plans.
Contracts, Deployments, and Operating Outlook
Co-Chief Executive Daniel Roberts said Horizon 1 entered service for Microsoft with NVIDIA Exemplar Cloud status, marking an early commercial deployment with a major technology partner. The company signed new multiyear contracts, including with a leading frontier artificial-intelligence laboratory, and disclosed an expanded contract with that customer after the quarter ended.
The combination of rapid, high-margin AI Cloud growth; a backlog weighted toward investment-grade counterparties; a funded, contracted ARR milestone; and vendor and customer deployments supports a clearer near-term operating runway, despite the ARR milestone’s timing shift into early 2027.
