Etsy, Inc. (ETSY) said on Oct. 28 that its Q3 2026 results for the quarter ended Sept. 30 showed accelerating profitability and a higher margin outlook, while management reported improving buyer activity supporting the near-term operating outlook.
Quarterly Results, Profitability, and Buyer Growth
Etsy reported revenue of $692.47 million, up 10.9% year over year, with marketplace gross merchandise sales (GMS) of approximately $2.6 billion, an 8.8% increase. Marketplace revenue rose 9.1%, while services revenue climbed 15%. The company’s take rate—the ratio of revenue to marketplace GMS—was 26.2%, sustaining revenue per unit of gross sales.
Adjusted EBITDA reached $210 million, representing a 30.4% margin. Operating cash flow increased to $242.85 million from $226.07 million a year earlier. Etsy held about $2.5 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and short- and long-term investments as of Sept. 30, 2026.
Trailing-12-month active buyers rose about 1% to roughly 88 million, marking the first year-over-year increase in two years and including approximately 540,000 sequential additions from the prior quarter. Trailing-12-month GMS per buyer increased 3.9% year over year, indicating quarter-to-quarter momentum in buyer engagement.
The faster growth in services revenue combined with a steady take rate shifted the revenue mix to support a higher margin profile. Strong cash generation alongside this mix provides Etsy the flexibility to focus spending where management expects acceptable returns.
Management guided fourth-quarter marketplace GMS to a range of $3.46 billion to $3.52 billion, implying 5%–7% year-over-year growth. It set a Q4 take rate near 25.6% and projected a Q4 adjusted-EBITDA margin of about 30%, while raising full-year adjusted-EBITDA margin guidance to approximately 30%. Full-year GMS growth is expected to be about 7%, with a full-year take rate near 25.8%. Management said macroeconomic conditions should remain relatively consistent, with foreign exchange a modest headwind. Fourth-quarter marketing spending will reflect year-to-date efficiency gains and target acceptable returns, despite less favorable comparisons.
The quarter’s profitability and raised margin outlook indicate Etsy is leveraging operating gains even as GMS growth remains modest. Improving buyer engagement and a solid cash position provide flexibility to prioritize profitable growth.
