Samsung Electronics said on July 7, 2026, that Samsung Q2 2026 guidance points to a record quarter driven by AI-related memory demand, a surge that coincided with a share decline as investors questioned the durability of AI spending.

Preliminary Q2 Guidance and Financial Comparisons

Samsung’s preliminary earnings guidance, filed with Korean regulators, projects consolidated sales of approximately 171 trillion won and operating profit near 89.4 trillion won for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, based on Korean International Financial Reporting Standards (K-IFRS). The company disclosed internal estimate ranges of 170–172 trillion won for sales and 89.3–89.5 trillion won for operating profit but noted that Korean disclosure rules require reporting a single median figure.

The guidance compares with Q1 2026 sales of 133.87 trillion won and operating profit of 57.23 trillion won, and Q2 2025 sales of 74.57 trillion won and operating profit of 4.68 trillion won. This implies a roughly 19-fold year-on-year increase in operating profit and a 56% rise from the prior quarter. Samsung said this would mark its largest quarterly operating profit and its third consecutive record quarter.

AI Memory Demand and Market Reaction

The surge in earnings is attributed primarily to strong AI-related demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and conventional DRAM, which has tightened supply and pushed prices higher. Analysts expect the memory shortage to continue into next year. Samsung’s Device Solutions semiconductor division is identified as the main profit driver, while mobile and other units lagged.

Despite the robust guidance, the announcement triggered a share sell-off as investors questioned whether AI-driven spending can sustain elevated pricing and whether gains are broad enough to lift the company beyond semiconductors. Pre-release analyst estimates clustered in the mid-80 trillion won range for operating profit, prompting expectations for model revisions. Some noted that the quarter likely includes one-off deductions tied to recent labor negotiations, where Samsung agreed to remove a 1,000% base salary bonus cap and allocate 10.5% of operating profit for employee bonuses, potentially reducing headline profit.

Samsung will release full Q2 results, including segment breakdowns, on July 30, 2026. Analysts will focus on confirming AI-driven strength in memory, the trajectory of unit pricing, and the net impact of employee bonus provisions on reported earnings.

"Please note that Korean disclosure regulations do not allow earnings estimates to be offered as a range. To comply with such regulations, the above figures represent the median of the estimate ranges provided below," Samsung said in its filing.
