NXP Semiconductors reported stronger-than-expected third-quarter revenue and profit on Oct. 27, 2026, but its updated outlook triggered a post-release share decline and analyst forecast cuts, complicating the near-term trading outlook.
Third-Quarter Results and Capital Returns
NXP said third-quarter revenue reached $3.79 billion for the period ended Sept. 27, 2026, up 19% year over year and 8% sequentially, surpassing analyst expectations. Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share rose 35% year over year to $4.20. GAAP net income increased to $899 million from $646 million a year earlier, with GAAP diluted EPS at $3.48.
Margins improved, with GAAP gross margin at 57.8% and non-GAAP gross margin at 58.6%, up 160 basis points year over year. GAAP operating margin was 32.4%, while non-GAAP operating margin climbed 330 basis points to 37.1%.
Cash flow remained strong. Operating cash flow totaled $1.26 billion, net capital expenditures were $50 million, and non-GAAP free cash flow reached $1.21 billion, equal to 31.9% of revenue. Capital returns amounted to $359 million, including $256 million in dividends and $103 million in share repurchases. The company increased its share-repurchase authorization by $5 billion, expanding buyback capacity.
Management said automotive and industrial growth drivers rose about 30% year over year and accounted for roughly one-third of total revenue. Demand in data-center infrastructure also remained strong.
Guidance and Market Reaction
NXP guided fourth-quarter revenue to a midpoint of $3.85 billion, plus or minus $100 million, implying about 15% year-over-year growth, 18% excluding the MEMS sensor business, and 2% sequential growth. Non-GAAP EPS guidance was $4.36 at the midpoint. The company projected a non-GAAP gross margin near 59%, non-GAAP operating margin around 37.5%, and operating expenses of approximately $830 million.
Management outlined a 2027 framework targeting double-digit revenue growth, roughly 60% gross margin, and capital expenditures near 5% of revenue. Longer-term margin gains depend on new manufacturing capacity, utilization, and product mix.
Shares declined after the outlook, and several analysts cut forecasts following the release, shifting market focus from the quarter’s strength to the guidance details.
