Meta Platforms Inc. began rolling out paid subscription plans on May 27, 2026, introducing Plus tiers for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp alongside trials of Meta One AI and professional packages. The company framed this as a strategic effort to diversify revenue beyond advertising.
Consumer Plus Plans
Meta’s head of product, Naomi Gleit, announced the consumer rollout in an Instagram video, detailing the initial Plus tiers and early tests for business and AI products. The company launched Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus, and WhatsApp Plus as paid, feature-enhancing layers on top of the existing free, ad-supported apps. These plans do not replace Meta Verified, which focuses on verification and impersonation protection.
Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus each cost $3.99 per month, while WhatsApp Plus is priced at $2.99. Meta described the rollout as global but potentially staged by market, with subscription options appearing inside the apps as they become available.
Instagram Plus targets creators and power users with tools such as aggregate story rewatch counts, unlimited audience lists for Stories, a weekly spotlight story, the ability to extend Stories beyond 24 hours, a preview mode that does not register as a viewer, searchable viewer lists, and the option to post directly to profile highlights without appearing in followers’ feeds. It also offers personalization features including animated Super Heart reactions, custom app icons, customizable profile fonts, and extra profile pins.
Facebook Plus offers a similar mix of expression, reach, and analytics tools tailored to its platform, though Meta has not published a full feature list. WhatsApp Plus focuses on personalization with app themes, custom ringtones, additional pinned chats, list customization, and premium sticker packs for users seeking more control over appearance and organization.
Meta One AI and Professional Tests
Meta is piloting paid tiers for its Meta AI product, offering higher-capacity usage behind subscription plans while maintaining a free tier for casual users. The Meta One AI lineup includes Meta One Plus at $7.99 per month and Meta One Premium at $19.99 per month. Premium offers the same core features but with more computing capacity for complex tasks, heavier image and video generation, and expanded use of the platform’s “thinking mode.” Testing of these AI tiers will begin next month in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia.
For creators and businesses, Meta is testing two professional packages: Meta One Essential at $14.99 per month and Meta One Advanced at $49.99 per month. Essential includes a Verified badge, impersonation protections, and an enhanced linksheet that aggregates links across channels. Advanced adds paid distribution tools such as higher placement in Facebook and Instagram search and feed features, a bolder follow button on Reels, and the ability to auto-send follow invitations. It also offers conversion features to drive traffic from posts and Reels, along with deeper analytics and workflow tools including competitive and audience insights, optimized scheduling, shared moderator access without password sharing, and content-reuse notifications with attribution labels. Tests for these professional tiers will start later this week in Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand, and Bangladesh.
Meta’s product leads said they intend to unify these experiments under a single subscription architecture centered on the Meta One brand as they refine features and market tests.
Executives described the rollout as part of a broader effort to diversify recurring revenue amid slower user growth on Meta’s mature platforms. They emphasized that the Plus and Meta One offerings will complement existing ad-funded products rather than replace them. Meta also plans to add more features to consumer Plus tiers and expand AI benefits into areas such as glasses and deeper app integration. As of May 28, 2026, the company has not provided revenue guidance or subscriber targets related to these subscription plans.
