MercadoLibre, Inc. (MELI) reported third-quarter results on Nov. 4, 2026, showing strong top-line growth led by Brazil and fintech. However, management said rising shipping costs, expanded fulfillment capacity, and increased marketing investments narrowed operating profitability ahead of the peak season.
Revenue Growth and Fintech Expansion
For the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, MercadoLibre reported net revenue and financial income of $10.75 billion, up 45% year over year and 41% on a foreign-exchange-neutral basis. Commerce revenue rose 47% to $6.1 billion. Gross merchandise volume (GMV) reached about $23 billion, a 38% increase year over year and 33% on a currency-neutral basis. The platform sold 867 million items, up 36%.
Fintech operations showed rapid expansion. Total payment volume hit $109 billion, up 53% year over year and 51% on a currency-neutral basis. Monthly active fintech users reached 93 million, a 29% increase, while the credit portfolio approached $18 billion, up 62%. Management said nonperforming loans remained stable despite weaker credit conditions in Brazil and Argentina. Brazil was the fastest-growing major market, with 36% currency-neutral GMV growth.
A secondary estimate showed Q3 earnings of $8.83 per share versus a $9.41 consensus.
Margin Pressure from Logistics and Marketing Investments
Income from operations declined 6% year over year to $676 million, producing a 6.3% operating margin, down 40 basis points sequentially. Net income rose 6% to $448 million, with a 4.2% net margin.
Management identified logistics and marketing as key near-term margin headwinds. Fulfillment capacity, measured in square meters, increased nearly 20% sequentially ahead of the peak season. Shipping-related factors, including a lower free-shipping threshold, fulfillment expansion, higher energy prices, and temporary recruitment costs, accounted for about 60 basis points of sequential margin pressure.
Sales and marketing expenses rose 40 basis points sequentially to 11.6% of net revenue. This increase reflected expanded marketing in Brazil and growth in the affiliate program, where affiliate-channel orders climbed about 240% year over year and the network surpassed 12 million affiliates. The company completed a $1 billion investment-grade bond issue in September to support these investments.
Management said it would continue investing in affiliate channels and logistics capacity, which could weigh on margins in the near term.
