FedEx Corp. (FDX) announced on March 24, 2026, the nationwide rollout of FedEx SameDay® Local, a same-day delivery service offering time-definite two-hour or end-of-day delivery windows through a network of more than 1,000 providers. The service uses AI-driven orchestration and API integration to coordinate deliveries.
Service Features and Network
FedEx said in a Business Wire press release at 8:00 a.m. ET that it is partnering with OneRail to manage last-mile delivery across its national network. The company will deploy AI to match carriers, optimize routing, and monitor performance. The platform includes near-real-time tracking, predictive estimated delivery times, electronic proof of delivery, API connectivity for merchant systems, 24/7 support, and capacity for oversized or specialized shipments. Jason Brenner, senior vice president of digital portfolio at FedEx, said the company supports customers in expanding their value proposition around speed and convenience.
The service offers customers the choice of two-hour time-definite delivery windows or end-of-day delivery, selectable at checkout. FedEx SameDay Local aims to expand last-mile capacity and improve delivery flexibility.
Retailer Impact and Market Context
FedEx cited its Future of Logistics Intelligence Report, which found that 96.0% of consumers define fast delivery as same-day, 80.0% want a same-day option at checkout, and 36.0% prioritize reliable delivery windows. The company said the service helps retailers reduce abandoned carts and build loyalty through improved visibility and time-definite options. Pricing for same-day fulfillment will be set by individual retailers at checkout.
The rollout follows a pre-announcement exclusive at 7:00 a.m. ET and comes as Amazon and Walmart have accelerated delivery speeds, increasing competitive pressure on carriers and merchants’ logistics strategies.
