Dropbox Inc. (DBX) announced on Nov. 5, 2026, plans to acquire Tigris Data Inc. and unveiled DBX Agent Cloud, signaling a strategic shift toward AI infrastructure. The company also reported third-quarter results that lifted its full-year outlook.
Planned Tigris Acquisition and AI Product Rollout
Dropbox said in a press release that it intends to acquire Tigris, a globally distributed, S3-compatible object-storage platform designed for artificial-intelligence workloads. The acquisition aims to accelerate Dropbox’s expansion into AI infrastructure for companies and developers, leveraging its experience managing large-scale storage systems. Event materials valued the transaction at $350 million. The deal remains subject to closing conditions and includes risks such as acquisition costs, integration challenges, and retention of key personnel.
Alongside the acquisition, Dropbox introduced DBX Agent Cloud, a standalone, S3-compatible object-storage product for AI applications. The redesigned Dropbox experience integrates AI-powered capabilities directly into customers’ existing files and workflows, avoiding the need for separate infrastructure stacks. The company said these new AI features have rolled out to more than 70,000 teams, initially covering eligible Standard and Advanced teams in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia, starting in English. Broader availability is planned for 2027.
Third-Quarter Results and Outlook
Dropbox reported third-quarter 2026 results showing revenue excluding FormSwift and non-GAAP operating margin above guidance, marking its fifth consecutive quarter of year-over-year revenue growth on that basis. Co-Chief Executive Officer Ashraf Alkarmi described the quarter as “another beat-and-raise quarter.” Following the results, Dropbox raised its full-year revenue and profit outlook.
Together, the planned acquisition, Agent Cloud rollout, and quarterly momentum reflect Dropbox’s strategic move beyond file synchronization and collaboration. The company is positioning itself as a provider of storage and data infrastructure for AI workloads, offering investors a clear catalyst that combines near-term financial strength with an expanded AI-focused product roadmap.
