Amazon said in a Business Wire release on Sept. 16, 2026, that it will raise minimum pay for eligible U.S. operations employees and expand benefits. The company said these changes are likely to improve morale and retention while modestly increasing labor costs.

Wages, Benefits, and Corporate Outlook

Amazon will raise minimum starting pay for eligible full-time U.S. core operations employees by $1 to $20 an hour. The company said average hourly pay for these roles will approach $24, and average total compensation, including benefits, will exceed $32 per hour.

The benefits package adds a Day 1 Financial banking benefit through First Tech Federal Credit Union for qualified employees and their families. Access will begin rolling out in late 2026 and become broadly available in 2027. Starting Oct. 1, 2026, U.S. employees will receive an uncapped 10% discount on eligible fresh groceries and everyday essentials online at Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market, plus 20% off in-store at Whole Foods Market.

These new benefits build on existing offerings such as free Prime membership, healthcare plans costing as little as $5 per week, and prepaid education programs. Secondary reports estimate Amazon’s investment in the pay increases at more than $1.5 billion, though the company did not provide formal financial guidance in the announcement.

No regulatory filings or approvals accompanied the announcement, which the company presented as a compensation and benefits update rather than a transaction or regulated event.
