StubHub’s Q2 2026 earnings on Aug. 12 showed strong revenue growth driven by record World Cup demand, but rising direct costs, refund delays, and regulatory concerns weighed on profitability and led to a brokerage downgrade.
Quarterly Results and Cash Flow
On Aug. 12, StubHub issued its Second Quarter 2026 Results press release and filed its quarterly report with the SEC for the period ended June 30. The company reported revenue of $573.1 million, up 33% year over year, and gross merchandise sales (GMS) of $3.1 billion, up 34%. Net income was $14.6 million, with adjusted EBITDA of $105.7 million. Free cash flow reached $309.7 million in the quarter and $600.2 million for the first half of 2026.
World Cup Costs and Customer Complaints
StubHub attributed the quarter’s strength to robust demand for live events, including a record World Cup. However, the surge strained operations, leading to customer complaints about tickets not arriving, replacement-ticket arrangements, and refund delays. These fulfillment issues coincided with higher event-related direct costs.
Management linked margin pressure to increased spending on customer experience, payment processing, and fulfillment. A brokerage downgrade cited ongoing profitability concerns and regulatory uncertainty around ticket-resale rules. Secondary reports also referenced a $10 million FTC settlement in April 2026 over allegations that StubHub failed to clearly disclose full ticket prices.
