SpaceX stock rallied back toward the IPO price after the company’s first public earnings on Aug. 4 and reports of an ARK Invest purchase. However, staged lockup expirations and heavy AI-related spending and capital expenditure plans kept selling pressure in focus.

Stock Rebound Near IPO Price

Shares had closed below the company’s $135 IPO price for weeks before rebounding in early August. On Aug. 7, the stock surged 16%, producing roughly a 23% two-day gain and adding an estimated $327 billion to the company’s market value. In premarket trading on Aug. 10, shares rose 2.4% to $136.3, reclaiming the IPO price level after retail investors sold SpaceX stock for the first time on the prior Friday.

Earnings, Spending and Lockup Expiration

SpaceX released its first quarterly public earnings on Aug. 4, widely reported as a revenue beat. Despite this, investors focused on heavy AI-related spending and larger planned capital expenditures, which pressured the stock and contributed to a 13.6% decline on Aug. 5. The first of 17 staged restrictions on pre-IPO investor sales expired on Aug. 6, increasing the tradable float and creating an additional near-term overhang. On Aug. 10, retail investors sold shares for the first time on the prior Friday, signaling a shift in retail behavior. Reports also cited a $15 million ARK Invest purchase as a factor supporting sentiment during the rebound, though this transaction could not be independently confirmed.
