Rivian Automotive on March 12, 2026 disclosed Rivian R2 pricing and specifications, detailing a staggered launch from spring 2026 into 2027. The announcement prompted a notable market reaction at the close.
Pricing and Delivery Schedule
The company said in a press release that it will roll out the R2 in stages. Deliveries of the Performance Launch Package begin in spring 2026 at $57,990 before taxes and fees. The Premium trim follows in late 2026 at $53,990, the Standard Long Range arrives early 2027 at about $50,000, and the entry-level Standard launches late 2027 at $45,000. The Performance Launch Package includes a lifetime Autonomy+ subscription with no recurring fee and Rivian’s tow package. The company said, "The all-new R2 brings Rivian's design, performance and technology to a significantly broader audience without losing what makes a Rivian unmistakably Rivian."
Performance Specs and Charging
Rivian R2 models share an 87.9 kWh battery architecture across the Performance, Premium, and Standard Long Range trims. The Performance dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) delivers 656 horsepower, 609 pound-feet of torque, a 0–60 mph time of 3.6 seconds, and a 330-mile EPA range. The Premium dual-AWD offers 450 horsepower, 537 pound-feet, a 4.6-second 0–60, and the same range. The Standard Long Range is a single rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant with 350 horsepower, 355 pound-feet, a 5.9-second 0–60, and a 345-mile range. The base Standard model is also single RWD with similar power and an estimated 275-mile range.
All R2 trims use the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port and will have access to the Tesla Supercharger network at delivery. The Performance, Premium, and Standard Long Range trims can charge from 10% to 80% in about 29 minutes. With the tow package, the R2 can tow 4,400 pounds. It offers 9.6 inches of ground clearance, class-leading in its segment, and weighs roughly 2,000 pounds less than Rivian’s R1 models. The vehicle features 200 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of edge artificial intelligence (AI) compute, a new Rivian Assistant, and dual horizontal touchscreens for in-car controls.
Market Positioning and Stock Reaction
Rivian is positioning the R2 as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y. Management has reaffirmed its entry-price target, emphasizing the company’s goal to reach broader mass-market buyers rather than limit the model to premium customers. The staged price ladder reshapes Rivian’s addressable market and will be central to investors’ assessments of volume and margin prospects.
RIVN stock closed down 7.0% at the March 12, 2026 market close.
