Paychex reported fiscal first-quarter 2027 revenue and profit gains on Sept. 23, 2026, attributing stronger results to growth in its PEO and Insurance Solutions businesses while unveiling WISE Hire, an AI recruiting tool designed to accelerate hiring and bolster its AI momentum.

Fiscal First-Quarter Results and Guidance

For the three months ended Aug. 31, 2026, Paychex posted revenue of $1.63 billion, a 6.0% increase from the prior year. Operating income rose 14.0% to $619.2 million, while adjusted operating income increased 9.0% to $684.7 million. Net income reached $429.7 million, up about 12.0%. Operating margin expanded to 38.0% from 35.2%, and adjusted operating margin improved to 42.0% from 40.7%. Diluted earnings per share rose 14.0% to $1.21, with adjusted diluted EPS up 10.0% to $1.34.

The company maintained its fiscal 2027 total-revenue growth guidance at 5.0% to 6.0% and kept Management Solutions revenue growth guidance steady at 5.0% to 6.0%. It raised the outlook for PEO and Insurance Solutions revenue growth to 7.0% to 8.0% and increased expected interest income on funds held for clients to $200 million–$210 million. Paychex reiterated an adjusted operating-margin target near 44.0%, an effective income-tax rate around 24.0%, and adjusted diluted EPS growth guidance of 7.0% to 9.0%. The outlook excludes acquisition-related costs.

The company credited the quarter’s double-digit EPS gains primarily to strong revenue growth in its PEO and Insurance Solutions segments.

WISE Hire Launch and AI Momentum

On Sept. 23, 2026, Paychex introduced WISE Hire, an agentic AI recruiting solution available as a standalone product or integrated with its human-capital-management platforms. The product offers multichannel candidate sourcing, recruiting workflow automation, candidate matching, and hiring expertise.

Paychex said WISE Hire helps businesses find and hire qualified talent four times faster on average. The company described its AI initiatives as gaining meaningful momentum, citing early-adopter results from its WISE engine alongside the product launch.

The results release noted that the fiscal 2027 outlook reflects current assumptions and market conditions and warned that changes in the macroeconomic environment could affect guidance.
