Novo Nordisk A/S raised its full-year 2026 guidance after reporting second-quarter adjusted operating profit of 33.4 billion Danish kroner and net sales of 78.5 billion kroner on Aug. 4, 2026. The company cited strong demand for its Wegovy pill and increased U.S. GLP-1 momentum, but U.S.-listed shares fell more than 5% as investors appeared disappointed.

Quarterly Results and Guidance

Novo Nordisk said its second-quarter adjusted operating profit exceeded expectations. It raised its full-year guidance for adjusted sales and operating profit to a range of 0% to −6% at constant exchange rates, narrowing the previous forecast of −12% to −4%.

Management attributed the improved outlook to stronger U.S. GLP-1 momentum, continued growth, and new product launches in International Operations. The company emphasized that the revision reflected sustained product momentum rather than a one-time event.

The Wegovy pill surpassed 5 million total U.S. prescriptions since its launch, with weekly U.S. prescriptions exceeding 265,000 in the week ending July 17, 2026. Management identified this prescription growth and broader GLP-1 sales as key drivers of the upgraded outlook.

Shares Decline Despite Raised Outlook

Despite the raised guidance, Novo Nordisk’s U.S.-listed shares dropped more than 5% following the announcement. This market reaction highlighted investor scrutiny of the company’s forward guidance amid evolving expectations for the GLP-1 drug class.

Analysts and investors are closely watching how quickly prescription momentum for GLP-1 products like Wegovy translates into sustained companywide growth. While the updated outlook and prescription milestones indicate progress, the share decline suggests concerns about the pace and visibility of that growth.
