Novo Nordisk said on Sept. 24, 2026, that it secured a global exclusive license to Nanexa’s PharmaShell drug-delivery platform to pursue up to five long-acting injectable programs for obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other cardiometabolic diseases, expanding its development options.

Deal Terms and Technology

Nanexa announced in a Sept. 24, 2026 press release that it entered a global exclusive license and collaboration agreement granting Novo Nordisk access to its PharmaShell platform. The deal covers up to five development programs targeting obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other cardiometabolic indications. Nanexa is eligible for up to €1.165 billion in contingent payments, including €615 million in upfront and development/regulatory milestones, with the remainder tied to sales milestones and low-single-digit royalties on global net sales. Novo Nordisk will lead global development and commercialization of products arising from the collaboration.

PharmaShell uses atomic layer deposition (ALD) to apply an ultra-thin coating on drug particles, controlling their release over time. The collaboration aims to develop long-acting injectable peptide medicines with monthly and quarterly dosing profiles as targets, not approved schedules.

By securing exclusive rights to PharmaShell and leading development and commercialization, Novo gains technical and commercial control to pursue less-frequent dosing across its cardiometabolic programs.

Nanexa scheduled a live commentary with Chief Executive David Westberg and Chairman Göran Ando for Sept. 25, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. CEST (5:15 a.m. ET).
