Lucid Group, Nuro, and Uber unveiled a production-intent Lucid robotaxi at CES 2026 on January 5, 2026. Nuro-led on-road testing began in December 2025 in the San Francisco Bay Area, with plans for a service launch and factory production later in 2026.

Robotaxi Unveiling and Technology

The companies revealed a robotaxi built on the Lucid Gravity SUV at CES 2026. The vehicle was displayed publicly at the NVIDIA CES showcase at the Fontainebleau Hotel from January 5 at 3:00 p.m. PT through January 8, 2026.

The robotaxi features a 360-degree sensor suite, including high-resolution cameras, solid-state lidar, and radar units. A roof-mounted LED halo communicates vehicle identity and status. Onboard processing runs on NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor compute.

Uber designed the in-cabin interface with interactive touchscreens controlling climate, seating, music, rider support, and stop requests, alongside real-time path visualization. The interior can accommodate up to six passengers plus luggage.

Testing, Partnership, and Production Outlook

Nuro leads supervised on-road testing using engineering prototypes, which began in December 2025 in the Bay Area. The program also includes closed-course and simulation testing to evaluate an AI foundation model and safety logic. The companies plan to launch robotaxi service in the Bay Area later in 2026.

Lucid expects to begin production at its Arizona factory later in 2026, pending final validation. The partnership assigns Lucid to supply the Gravity SUV-based vehicles, Nuro to provide Level 4 autonomy through its Nuro Driver stack, and Uber to deliver its ride-hailing platform and in-cabin experience design.

Uber’s investor-relations page posted the announcement on January 6, 2026. Uber previously invested $300 million in Lucid and committed to purchasing 20,000 electric vehicles in July 2025. The companies’ release included forward-looking statements subject to risks detailed in Lucid’s 2024 Form 10-K and subsequent SEC filings.

"The debut of our production intent robotaxi with Lucid and Uber is a significant milestone on our path to delivering autonomy at scale," said Dave Ferguson, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Nuro.
