Meta began testing Instagram for TV on Amazon Fire TV in the U.S. on Dec. 16, 2025, bringing Instagram Reels to larger screens with personalized channels and a remote-friendly interface as it pilots features before a broader rollout.
U.S. Pilot Launches on Select Fire TV Devices
Meta launched a U.S. pilot of Instagram for TV to bring Reels to Amazon Fire TV devices, aiming to gather user feedback on TV features and usability. The company plans to expand the app to more devices and countries after the test.
Amazon confirmed the app’s availability in the Fire TV Appstore on Fire TV Stick HD; Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and Fire TV Stick 4K Max (first and second generation); Fire TV 2 and 4 Series; and the Fire TV Omni QLED Series. This range covers entry-level streaming sticks and higher-end televisions, allowing Meta to assess how viewers engage with short-form social clips on various living-room hardware.
Aidan Marcuss, vice president of Fire TV at Amazon, said, "We're excited to be the first place to offer it."
Features Designed for TV Viewing and Discovery
Distinct from Instagram’s discontinued IGTV long-form product, the app focuses on short-form Reels videos organized into personalized channels such as music, sports, travel, and trending comedy. Its interface suits couch browsing, featuring a horizontal carousel home screen that auto-plays clips while preserving full-portrait video with captions, likes, and share controls visible.
Users can search for creators and topics, like and comment, and sign in with up to five accounts or create a TV-only account. Meta is exploring phone pairing to simplify sign-in from a handset. These features support multiple household profiles and encourage shared, lean-back viewing rather than one-to-one phone use.
Meta framed the pilot as a way to bring Reels to the big screen for shared viewing and to identify which TV features work best. Instagram head Adam Mosseri had noted in October 2025 that television is an increasingly important platform for the app, explaining the move to extend short-form video into living rooms.
Bringing Reels to TV expands Meta’s distribution beyond mobile and places the product in direct competition with other short-form platforms targeting living-room audiences. User response during the Fire TV pilot will influence whether Meta extends Reels to additional connected-TV platforms.
