ConocoPhillips earnings topped forecasts on Aug. 6 after stronger oil and gas prices and cost cuts lifted second-quarter profitability. The company also announced that Andy O’Brien will become chief executive effective Sept. 1, 2026.

Q2 Results and Dividend

ConocoPhillips reported second-quarter 2026 net income of $3.9 billion, or $3.23 per share, and adjusted earnings of $4.0 billion, or $3.24 per share, exceeding the LSEG consensus of $2.88 per share, the company said in a press release at 7:00 a.m. ET. It declared a dividend of $0.84 per share, payable Sept. 1 to shareholders of record Aug. 17.

The profit increase reflected higher commodity prices and companywide cost cuts, which offset a decline in output. The average realized price was $62.33 per barrel of oil equivalent (BOE), up 36.0% year over year. Production averaged 2,248 thousand BOE per day, down 143,000 BOE per day from the prior-year quarter.

Leadership Succession

ConocoPhillips said in a separate press release at 7:06 a.m. ET that Andy O’Brien, currently chief financial officer and executive vice president of strategy and commercial, will succeed Ryan Lance as president and chief executive officer and join the board. Lance will transition to an executive-chair role, and Konnie Haynes-Welsh will become senior vice president and chief financial officer. These appointments take effect Sept. 1.

The company said, “ConocoPhillips delivered strong second-quarter results with exceptional operational performance, record production from our peer-leading Permian position and disciplined execution across the business.”
