ASML’s Q3 results on October 14, 2026, showed record sales and margins. The company raised its outlook, citing strong AI-related demand that it expects will exceed available lithography capacity through at least 2028.
Quarterly Results and Outlook
ASML reported total net sales of €11.7 billion, gross profit of €6.7 billion, a 57.5% gross margin, and net income of €5.0 billion for the quarter. Sales rose from €7.5 billion a year earlier. Installed-base management revenue, which covers services and upgrades for existing equipment, increased to €3.3 billion from €2.8 billion in Q2. The company shipped 113 new lithography systems and eight used systems, compared with 86 new and five used in the prior quarter. Cash and short-term investments rose to €12.7 billion from €7.6 billion at the end of Q2.
For Q4, ASML forecast total net sales between €14.2 billion and €15.2 billion, with a gross margin around 57%. It raised its full-year sales forecast to €44 billion–€45 billion and expects a full-year gross margin near 56%. The company projected Q4 research and development expenses of about €1.2 billion and selling, general, and administrative expenses near €0.4 billion. Management attributed the outlook to sustained customer demand, installed-base upgrades, favorable product mix, and ongoing semiconductor-capacity expansion.
The sequential increase in service revenue, higher system shipments, and stronger cash position give ASML flexibility to accelerate capital and capacity investments, supporting its decision to raise near-term targets.
Demand and Capacity Outlook
Management said planned supply for 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet customer demand. ASML is evaluating additional capacity for 2028 beyond a previously announced 30% expansion. Customers have expressed interest in placing orders for delivery in 2029 and 2030, extending revenue visibility into later years.
The company linked this order interest and capacity pressure to strong demand for advanced semiconductor production, including chips used in artificial intelligence. This sustained demand that outstrips near-term capacity underpins ASML’s push to expand 2028 capacity and extends multi-year revenue visibility.
Regulatory Comments on China
ASML’s chief financial officer, Roger Dassen, opposed a proposed U.S. Match Act provision that would restrict exports of deep-ultraviolet (DUV) lithography equipment to China. He warned that such limits could be counterproductive by accelerating China’s development of competing domestic technology. This stance highlights a potential policy risk as ASML moves to expand production to meet multi-year demand.
