Anthropic unveiled the Mythos Preview on April 7, 2026, giving selected partners limited access to scan software for severe vulnerabilities. The move aims to accelerate defensive scanning and industry-wide remediation.

Model Capabilities and Partnerships

Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview as an unreleased, general-purpose frontier model with advanced coding, reasoning, and cybersecurity capabilities. The company said the model has identified thousands of high-severity vulnerabilities, including some in every major operating system and web browser. Many of these weaknesses date back one to two decades, highlighting persistent gaps in widely used codebases.

The company limited access to the preview due to hacking risks, sharing it with more than 40 organizations through Project Glasswing. Launch partners include Amazon Web Services, Apple, Broadcom, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Google, JPMorgan Chase, the Linux Foundation, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Palo Alto Networks. These partners will use the model to scan first-party and open-source software and share findings industry-wide.

Anthropic pledged up to $100 million in Mythos Preview usage credits and $4 million in donations to open-source security organizations to support tooling deployment and audits. The company said it has no plans for general availability and intends to pursue safe deployment of Mythos-class models only after developing additional safeguards. The upcoming Claude Opus model will incorporate new protections.

Regulatory and Security Context

Anthropic is in ongoing discussions with U.S. government officials about Mythos’s offensive and defensive cyber capabilities, framing securing critical infrastructure as a national-security priority. Separately, the company remains in a legal dispute with the Trump administration and the Pentagon over its refusal to provide autonomous targeting or surveillance capabilities for U.S. citizens, a conflict officials have described as a supply-chain risk.
