Alphabet Inc. (GOOG, GOOGL) reported Q3 2026 earnings on Oct. 28, 2026, highlighting rapid Google Cloud expansion and management’s AI-driven infrastructure investments. The company signaled a sustained, higher capital expenditure program, prompting investor debate over the durability of Search revenue.
Q3 Results and Drivers
Alphabet’s consolidated revenue rose 25% year over year to approximately $127.6 billion. Google Cloud revenue more than doubled, increasing 103% to $30.7 billion, driven by its cloud platform, AI infrastructure and solutions, core cloud services, and sales of TPU systems. Google Cloud operating income reached $11.1 billion, with an operating margin of 36.2%, up from 23.7% a year earlier. The company expects TPU-system sales to continue scaling in Q4 2026, setting up a meaningful revenue ramp in 2027.
Search and other advertising revenue rose 12% year over year to $63.3 billion, below a cited Wall Street estimate of $64.96 billion. Management described search momentum as positive, citing AI investments that are driving increased usage and overall query growth. Sundar Pichai, Alphabet’s CEO, said, “Our AI investments are driving increased usage and overall query growth, including commercial queries.” He added that year-over-year query growth was the highest in five years.
Capital Spending and Outlook
Alphabet’s quarterly capital expenditures totaled $51.4 billion, with most spending directed to technical infrastructure supporting AI investments. About 65% of this investment went to servers and networking equipment, which generally have useful lives of six years.
The company maintained its full-year 2026 capital expenditure range of $195 billion to $205 billion and said spending would increase significantly in 2027. Management plans to provide further details on the Q4 call. This signal of materially higher 2027 spending frames investor discussions around the timing of AI monetization and multi-year capital returns.
