Spotify Technology S.A. (SPOT) announced a Spotify Premium price increase on Jan. 15, 2026, raising subscription prices in the U.S., Estonia, and Latvia effective February 2026. The company said the adjustments reflect Spotify’s value and support artists.

Pricing and Rollout Details

Spotify said in a press release that the U.S. Individual Premium plan will rise from $11.99 to $12.99 per month, an 8.3% increase, effective on subscribers’ billing dates in February. The Duo plan will increase to $18.99, Family to $21.99, and Student to $6.99 per month. The changes apply to the U.S., Estonia, and Latvia, with a rollout over roughly one month. Markets that experienced international price increases in mid-2025 are excluded. This marks Spotify’s second U.S. price adjustment since July 2024, when the Individual tier rose from $10.99 to $11.99.

Profitability and Market Context

As of the third quarter of 2025, Spotify reported 281 million global Premium subscribers. The company posted €582 million ($670 million) in operating income that quarter, up 33.0% year-over-year, and recorded its first full-year operating profit in 2024 of €1.4 billion ($1.5 billion).

Spotify said in its announcement, "Occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists." Following the announcement, SPOT shares rose 3% in premarket trading.

After the increase, Spotify’s Individual Premium plan is the highest-priced mainstream music-only streaming service. YouTube Music and Apple Music charge $10.99 for individual plans, while YouTube Premium’s music-plus-video bundle costs $13.99, and Apple One bundles offer lower effective pricing.

Over the past 18 months, Spotify has raised prices in more than 150 markets and in November 2025 launched a Premium Platinum tier in India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the UAE. This tier, priced at more than double the standard rate, offers lossless audio, AI-powered features, and other perks. These moves reflect a pricing strategy aimed at expanding revenue and margin opportunities.
