Meta Platforms and Corning Incorporated (GLW) announced on January 27, 2026, a multiyear supply agreement valued at up to $6 billion to support Meta’s U.S. AI data-center expansion. The deal covers the supply of advanced optical fiber, cable, and connectivity solutions designed for the high-density demands of AI infrastructure, prompting Corning to expand manufacturing capacity in North Carolina.
Deal Terms and Manufacturing Expansion
Corning said the agreement secures U.S.-based supply for AI data centers by providing the latest-generation fiber and connectivity products tailored for advanced AI workloads. The company positioned the pact as a commitment to domestic manufacturing and innovation, while Meta emphasized the importance of American production to maintain U.S. leadership in AI.
Meta is the anchor customer for Corning’s new optical cable facility in Hickory, North Carolina. Corning also plans to expand operations at its Trivium Corporate Center in Catawba County. The company projects a 15–20% increase in its North Carolina workforce, sustaining more than 5,000 skilled employees at two of the world’s largest optical fiber and cable manufacturing sites.
Meta operates or has under construction 26 U.S. data centers. The company linked the demand for fiber connectivity to this buildout, noting that construction has supported 30,000 skilled trade jobs. Ongoing operations sustain 5,000 jobs, including electricians, HVAC specialists, server and network technicians, safety and security staff, and engineers.
Corning framed the agreement as positioning it as a critical supplier in the AI infrastructure buildout. Wendell P. Weeks, chairman and chief executive, said, "This long-term partnership with Meta reflects Corning's commitment to develop, innovate, and manufacture the critical technologies that power next-generation data centers here in the U.S."
